Parallel Compression

Today I was playing with parallel compression using the track 51-14.

Here you can hear the difference between without (top) and with parallel compression (bottom).

  1. 1.

  2. 2.

To get an idea how it works, please watch the following video.

My settings are (B = the parallel compression channel):

Nr. 6 is the drums, Nr 8 is the background noise of Amsterdam. This result is equalized to increase the lows and the highs, the attack time is really short and this is mixed with the original signal  and the reverb (A) in the master.

I got the idea, however this is not a song I would use for parallel compression. But, the effect can be very useful, so this is still insightful.
